What is Body Performance Therapy?

This isn’t a replacement for your workout. Although it may feel like it and it could stand alone as one. Working with me isn’t about sweating. Although sweat may happen. My focus is on getting your body working better.

When your body works better, you can work harder and focus more clearly.

First a little science…

Connective tissue surrounds and links one muscle to another and links these “fascial chains” to bone to create movement. If your connective tissue is balanced and hydrated, then muscle and bone falls into line effortlessly.

If your connective tissue is dehydrated, it can get “stuck” and inhibit your body alignment and ability to effectively use your muscles.

100% of your sensory response is actually located in your Connective Tissue, not your muscles. So when you feel pain, or when you feel like something isn’t “quite right” within your body, you are actually sensing your connective tissue, not your muscles.

To bring about lasting change that will help optimize your mental and physical performance, you need to focus on going to the source and making change there, while letting your muscles come along for the ride.

My approach is to fuse different Osteopathic exercise techniques that prioritize Connective Tissue health and quality fluid dynamics within the body over muscular strength.

To do this effectively, I develop long-term, trusted relationships with my clients that allow me to understand their personal limitations and goals, and support them along their journey to better health and performance.

What you can expect in a session.

A one-on-one exercise therapy session with me is usually 35-55 minutes in length (depending on a client’s needs and availability). It begins with an assessment of your spine (to establish our session’s focus) and then I’ll guide you through a tissue conditioning fluid warm up. Based on the goals of the session, I’ll then incorporate ELDOA™, Myofascial Stretch and Diaphragmatic conditioning.

  • What is ELDOA™? - A spinal traction exercise technique that improves intervertebral disc health, opens up all the nerve pathways of your spine and works to condition your connective tissue throughout your body.

  • What is Myofascial Stretch? - In a Myofascial Stretch you are pulling open a muscle from all angles and anchor points creating stretch in all muscle fibre angles, forcing it to relent to the stretch at all points not open where it is easiest.

  • What is Diaphragmatic Conditioning? Your diaphragm is a muscle that controls your breathing, and your breath acts as a pump that circulates fluid through minute “hose like” tubes that make up your Connective tissue. The better your diaphragm functions, the more powerfully it can push fluid through your connective tissue. The more evenly hydrated your tissue is, the healthier it is.

Connective tissue that functions better allows you to achieve more traction from each ELDOA™ pose and therefore nerves that communicate and function better. This is a cycle that brings about change within your whole body, right down to your nervous system, on a very deep level.
